Biographical/Historical Note

Sister Maria was born Maria Marsan on August 5, 1904 in Quebec, Canada. She entered the Fall River Congregation on August 4, 1925. She received the habit on August 2, 1926 and was given the religious name, Sister John Augustine. (She began using the name, Sister Maria after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 4, 1927 and final vows on August 4, 1931. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Catherine's, 1927-1946; St. Bernadette, New Haven, CT, 1952-1958; St. Anne, Mooers Forks, 1959; St. Dominic, Plattsburgh, NY, 1960; and St. Philip, 1966-. Sister also served the congregation as: Sub Mistress of Novices; Mistress of Novices; and as Prioress General, 1946-1952. She died on May 22, 1984.
