Biographical/Historical Note

Sister Helen was born Jeannette Laveault on March 7, 1909 in Yamaska, Quebec, Canada. She entered the Fall River Congregation on August 3, 1926. She received the habit on July 26, 1927 and was given the religious name, Sister Helen. She pronounced first vows on August 4, 1928 and final vows on August 4, 1932. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA, 1926-1927, 1932-1940,and 1943-1971; St. Dominic, D'Youville, 1928-1929; St. Anne, 1930-1932; St. Rose Acushnet, MA, 1940-1941; St. Dominic, Plattsburgh, NY, 1941-1942; and Bishop Gerrard, 1971-1972. Sister also worked in an Irish Shop doing sewing, filing and bookkeeping, 1972-1976. Sister Helen earned a BA from Providence College, Providence, RI, 1940. She died on October 2, 1987.
