Biographical/Historical Note

Sister Mary Matthew was born Maria Dutil on August 30, 1897 in Fall River, MA. No date of entrance to the Fall River Congregation is recorded. She received the habit on March 7, 1919 and was given the religious name, Sister Marie Mathieu. (She began using the name Sister Mary Matthew after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on March 7, 1920 and final vows on March 7, 1924. During her years in the congregation she served in... the following schools: St. Anne, Fall River, MA; St. Joseph Orphanage; St. Francis Xavier, Acushnet, MA; Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA; St. Peter, Plattsburgh, NY; Mooers Forks, NY; Chateaugay; and St. Francis, Acushnet, MA. Sister also served the congregation as Infirmarian and sub mistress of the novitiate. She died on January 19, 1982. See more
