Processing Information
The records and papers of each member of the congregation originally were unarranged and mingled together in archival folders, which were filed alphabetically by the sisters' last names in metal filing cabinets. The provenance of the mixed materials in the collection is not verifiable, but it is assumed that the records came from the congregation's administrative office and the papers from either the administrative office or the sisters themselves.
Archives staff designated the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh as the creator of the overall collection and each sister as the creator of her particular series. They separated restricted items from each series and housed the materials in archival containers marked "Restricted." They then arranged the collection, as described herein, for ease of management and use.
