Biographical / Historical
Mother Mary Walsh started the Apostolate of the DSSP, informally, in 1879. The Congregation was not established canonically until 1910. The early part of this history covers the years to 1910 with some overlapping. Because the women were called Sister by those who knew them and were Dominican Tertiaries, they were incorporated in NYC in 1904 as Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor.
