This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Nicholas Marie was born Josephine Zitz on April 29, 1926 in NYC. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1945 and received the habit on June 24, 1946 when she was given the religious name, Sister Nicholas Marie. She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1947 and final vows on August 26, 1950 . During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Larchmont, NY, 1947-1951; St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1951-1961; Our Lady of Lourdes, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1961-1964- 1967-1969; San Lorenzo, P.R., 1964-1967; Gloucester Catholic, Gloucester, NJ, 1969-1972; and Holy Name, Camden, NJ, 1972. Sister moved to Mt. St. Mary Infirmary in 1973. Sister Nicholas Marie earned her BA in Education from Villanova University, and her MA in Spanish from Middlebury College, Vt. She died October 18, 2004.
