This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Ellen was born Christine Wisner on December 3, 1925 in Newburgh, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1946 and received the habit on June 25, 1947 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Ellen. She pronounced first vows on June 26, 1948 and final vows on August 27, 1951 . During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1948-1958; Our Lady of Fatima, Scarsdale, NY, 1958-1967; Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, NY, 1967-1972; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1972-1976; Saint Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1976-1982; and at Saint Timothy School in Miami, FL, 1982 -. Sister Mary Ellen earned her Master’s degree in Art Education from the College of New Rochelle.
