This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Helen Theresa was born Helen Theresa Winters on February 7, 1919 in Columbus, Ohio. She entered the Ossining Congregation on February 2, 1950 and received the habit on December 8, 1950 when she received the religious name, Sister Bernard Marie. (She began using the name, Sister Helen Theresa after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on December 9, 1951 and final vows on December 9, 1954. During her years in the congregation she served in the following Dominican Sisters Home Health Care Agencies: Denver, OC, 1952-1953; NYC, 1953-1955; Springfield, OH, 1955-1956; Boston, MA, 1957-1962; Hampton, Bays, NY, 1962-1970; Columbus, OH, 1970-1975; and New York, NY, 1975-1976. Sister also ministered with the Hispanic population in: Bronx/Ossining, NY, 1984-1986; and St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bronx, NY, 1986-2004. Sister Helen Theresa earned her: RN from Mt. Carmel Hospital; BA in General Studies from Dominican College in Ohio; and MA in Religious Education from St. Joseph Seminary, Yonkers, NY. She died April 21, 2008.
