This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Barbara was born Elizabeth Wheeler on September 2, 1924 in Minneapolis, MN. She entered the Ossining Congregation on September 24, 1946 and received the habit on March 24, 1947 when she received the religious name, Sister Barbara Marie. (She began using the name, Sister Barbara after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on March 29, 1948 and final vows on March 29, 1951. During her years in the congregation she served in the following Dominican Sisters Home Health Care Agencies: Dayton, OH, 1948-1949; Minneapolis, MN, 1955-1959; and Cincinnati, OH, 1960-1964, 1969-1994. In 1990, Sister Barbara co-founded with a sister of Notre Dame de Namur, a job training program, "Power Inspires Progress" in Cincinnati, OH. As co-director, sister developed the Venice Pizza business on-site training. Sister received the 1995 Peace and Justice Award from the Intercommunity Center for Justice and Peace. She also served on the Board of Trustees of Elderly People in Community (EPIC) and was a member of the Cincinnati Chapter of Ohioans to Stop Executions (OTSE). Sister Barbara earned: her RN in Nursing from Misericordia; her BS in Nursing from Edgecliff College in Cincinnati, OH; and her MA in Liberal Arts from Manhattanville College. She died January 4, 2014.
