This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Anne Joachim was born Theresa Vari on March 1, 1932 in Camden, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1955 and received the habit on June 12, 1956 when she was given the religious name, Sister Anne Joachim . She pronounced first vows on June 13, 1957 and final vows on August 30, 1960. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ, 1957-1965; St. Lawrence, Lindenwold, NJ, 1965-1971; Holy Trinity, Passaic, NJ, principal, 1971-1979, and teacher, 1979-1995; and St. Christopher, Parsippany, NJ, 1996-2007. Sister retired and moved to the Newburgh Center of Hope, 2007-2009. She then moved to The Wartburgh, Mt. Vernon, NY, where she ministered to our retired sisters, 2009-2015. Sister Anne Joachim earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mt. St. Mary College in Newburgh, NY. She died September 25, 2015.
