This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Charlanne was born Elizabeth Travis on April 20, 1918 in Albany, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1936 and received the habit on June 27, 1937 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Charlanne. She pronounced first vows on June 28, 1938 and final vows on August 21, 1944. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1940-1941; Dominican Day School, Larchmont, NY, 1941-1948; St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1948-1950; Sacred Heart, Raleigh, NC, 1950-1964; Pope Pius XII HS, Passaic, NJ, 1971-1975; Mt. St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, NY, Librarian,1971-1975; and Mt. St. Mary HS, Newburgh, Librarian,1975-1979. Sister also ministered in Immaculate HS, Danbury, CT, Librarian, 1979-1994, and as media specialist, 1984-. Sister Charlanne earned: her BA in Liberal Arts from Villanova University; her BS in Music from Nazareth College; and her MS in Music from Nazareth College. She died September 25, 2006.
