This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Ann was born Ann Thorne on May 8, 1941 in Fairfield, CT. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1958 and received the habit on June 16, 1959 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary. (She began using the name, Sister Ann after Vatican II).She pronounced first vows on June 17, 1960 and final vows on August 21, 1963. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Immaculate HS, Danbury, CT, 1976-1978; Western Catholic Primary School, Greenwich, CT, 1978-1980; and St. Peter, Danbury, CT, 1980-1986. Sister Ann was also a speech pathologist at Orange-Windsor Supervisory Union in South Royalton, VT, 1986-1990, and served as pastoral associate for faith formation/servant leadership and co-director of North Country Ministry in North Creek, NY, 1996-2000. In addition, she was campus minister at the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, VT, 2005- 2007. She has been a speech pathologist at Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union, Manchester, VT, 2007-. Sister also served as seamstress for the Newburgh Congregation as well as for the Dominican friars in Washington, DC. Sister Ann earned: her BA in Speech Pathology from Catholic University; her MA in Education from Fairfield University; her MS in Speech Pathology from Nazareth College; and her MA in Scripture from St. Michael’s College.
