This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary David was born Veronica Tatem on March 26, 1918 in Gloucester, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1938 and received the habit on June 17, 1939 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary David. She pronounced first vows on June 19, 1940 and final vows on August 20, 1946. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Casa San Jose, Newburgh, NY, 1938-1939, 1940-1941; St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1941-1943; Sacred Heart, Raleigh, NC, 1943-1946; St. Patrick, Woodbury, NJ, 1946-1956; Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1956-1961; Nativity, Bronx, NY, 1961-1969; St. Rose, Haddon Heights, NJ, 1969-1975; and St. Christopher, Parsippany, NJ, 1975-1979. Sister also ministered as: receptionist, in the Archdiocesan Catholic School Office, Washington, DC, 1979-1983; school secretary, Mackin Catholic HS, Washington, DC, 1984-1988; and as a secretary at Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY, 1988-1998. Sister Mary David earned her BS in Education from Villanova University, and her MA in Art from Notre Dame University. She died June 29, 2001.
