This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Ida was born Ida St. Denis on August 19, 1894 in Fall River, MA. She entered the Fall River Congregation on December 8, 1917 and received the habit on December 8, 1918 when she received the religious name, Sister Marie Gonzales. (She began using the name, Sister Ida after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on March 8, 1919 and final vows on December 8, 1923. During her years in the congregation she served in the following convents in domestic services: St. Catherine, Fall River, MA, 1919-1926, 1927-1928, 1930-1932, 1937-1938, 1948-1950, 1968-1979, limited service, 1968-1985; St. Rose, Acushnet, MA, 1926-1927, 1929-1930, 1936-1937, 1942-1945, 1947-1948; St. Peter, Plattsburgh, NY, 1928-1929, 1932-1936, 1938-1942, 1945-1946, 1950-1965; St. Joseph, West Chazy, NY, 1965-1967; and St. Augustine, Peru, NY, 1967-1968. She died October 28, 1998.
