This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Jean was born Jean Spena on September 16, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on August 30, 1961 and received the habit on June 19, 1962 when she was given the religious name, Sister Jean Anthony. (She began using the name, Sister Jean after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 20, 1963 and final vows on November 28, 1968. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY, 1964-1965; St. Mary, Passaic, NJ, 1965-1970; Sacred Heart, Raleigh, NC, 1970-1971; and St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, Physical Education, 1971-1977-. Sister also served as a volunteer in a soup kitchen in Camden, NJ. Sister Jean earned her BS in Elementary Education from Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY.
