This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Monica was born Eleanor Socinski on September 3, 1932 in W. Rutland, VT. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1956 and received the habit on June 12, 1957 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Monica. She pronounced first vows on June 13, 1958 and final vows on August 21, 1961. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1956-1958; Our Lady of Lourdes HS, Poughkeepsie, NY, Music, French, 1958-1961, 1962-1972; Mt. St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, NY, French, Latin, Italian, 1972-1975;; St. Joseph HS, Toms River, NJ, 1975-1978; and South Catholic HS, Hartford, CT, 1981-1984. Sister was a student in voice, Spellman Scholarship, Schifanoia, Florence, Italy, 1961-1962. While there she gave concert of Art Songs in Italian, German, French and English. She also served in the capacity of Pastoral Assistant in Liturgy and Music, St. Augustine cathedral, Bridgeport, CT, 1979-1980, and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Hartford, CT. In addition, she served as Choir Director, Religion Teacher and Coordinator, Assumption Parish, Emerson, NJ, 1984-. Sister Monica earned: her AB from Trinity College, Burlington, VT, French, McGill University; her MA in French from Middlebury College' and HA in Pastoral Studies from Fairfield University.
