This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Gilbert was born Geneva Snide on August 19, 1932 in Moores Forkes, NY. She entered the Fall River Congregation on September 19, 1949 and received the habit on August 28, 1950 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Gilbert. She pronounced first vows on August 30, 1951 and final vows on August 30, 1954. During her years in the congregation she served in the following: the Fall River Motherhouse, Fall River, MA, 1954-1955, 1959-1960, 1969-1974, 1977-1983; St. John’s Nursery, Fall River, 19551959, where she also cared for the children; Rosary Convent, Chateauguay, NY, 1960-1964, where she also taught catechetical classes in the parish; and St. Dominic Convent, Plattsburgh, NY, 1964-1969, 1974-1977. Sister ministered at the motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters of Fall River as driver, weekend cook, and member of the infirmary staff, 1986-2002. She moved to the Center of Hope, Newburgh, NY, where she provided transportation for the sisters and other volunteer services.
