This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Angela was born Evelyn Smith on October 8, 1929 in Mt. Ranier, MD. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1953 and received the habit on June 14, 1954 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Angela. She pronounced first vows on June 15, 1955 and final vows on August 21, 1958. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools and ministries: Little Flower, Pensacola, FL, 1955-1964; Cathedral, Raleigh, NC, 1964-1966; and Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1966-1972. Sister also provided services to the congregation at Mt. St. Mary Convent, Newburgh, NY: clerical assistant, Mt. St. Mary, HS, 1976-1979; driver for the infirmary at Mt. St. Mary, 1979-1995; and transportation coordinator for the Dominican Sisters of Hope. She volunteered in the finance office of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Newburgh, NY. Sister moved to the Wartburg Assisted Living, Mt. Vernon, NY.
