This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Marguerita was born Marguerita Smith on January 18, 1931 in Dorchester, MA. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1953 and received the habit on June 14, 1954 when she was given the religious name, Sister Louise Angele. (She began using the name, Sister Marguerita after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 15, 1955 and final vows on August 21, 1958. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Augustine, Larchmont, NY, 1961-1963; Mt. Mary HS, Paterson, NJ, 1963-1969; and St. Joseph HS, Toms River, NJ, 1969-. She also served as archivist at Dunwoodie Seminary, Yonkers, NY. Sister Marguerita earned her BA from Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY, and her MA in Spanish from Middlebury College.
