This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Helen Dolores was born Mary Patricia Smith on November 18, 1918 in Saranac Lake, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1949 and received the habit on June 16, 1950 when she was given the religious name, Sister Helen Dolores. She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1951 and final vows on August 24, 1954. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Guardian Angel, NYC, 1951-1955; Regina Coeli, Hyde Park, NY, 1955-1959; Pope Pius XII HS, Passaic, NJ, 1959-1966; St. Therese, Succasunna, NJ, Principal, 1966-1972; Holy rosary, Hawthorne, NY, 1972-1973; San Jose, Bayamon, PR, 1973-1978; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1978-1979; St. Joseph HS, Toms River, NJ, 1979-1981; and St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1981-1984. Sister also served as religion teacher and media coordinator, St. Mary, Deal, NJ, 1984-1985 and in the secretarial office, Msgr. Donovan HS, toms River, NY, 1985-1999. Sister Helen Dolores earned her BS and MS in Education from Villanova University. She also earned credits in Guidance and Counseling. She died September 21, 2007.
