This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Kathleen was born Kathleen Short on April 13, 1913 in Ireland. She entered the Newburgh Congregation December 8, 1930 and received the habit on August 31,1931 when she received the religious name, Sister Leo Vincent. (She began using the name, Sister Kathleen after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on September 2, 1932 and final vows on August 20, 1938. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Paul, Jersey City, NY, 1932-1939; Mt. Vernon, NY, 1939-1942; St. Patrick, Newburgh, NY, 1942-; Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic, NJ, 1954-1959. In 1959 Sister was elected Mother General of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh, NY and was re-elected in 1965. She also served as President at Mt. St. Mary College, Newburgh, NY. Sister was Executive Secretary to NCEA, (National Catholic Education Association), Elementary Division, Washington, DC, 1971-1977. She became Director of In-service Programs and conventions, NCEA, Washington, DC, 1977-1979. Sister Kathleen served as Administrator of Mt. St. Mary Infirmary, Newburgh, NY, 1979-1984 and then as Parish Minister with Senior Citizens, St. Mary Parish, Deal, NJ, 1984. Sister was also a certified Swedish Massage Therapist. Sister Kathleen earned her BS in Education from Seton Hall University and her MA in Administration from Catholic University, Washington, DC. She died July 26, 2001.
