This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Patricia was born Mary Sexton on February 26, 1913 in Ireland. She entered the Ossining Congregation December 7, 1932 and received the habit on June 13, 1933 when she received the religious name, Sister Patricia. She pronounced first vows on June 13, 1934 and final vows on June 13, 1937 During her years in the congregation she served in the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor Family Health Agencies : Bronx, NJ, 1932-1933, 1943-1949, 1957-1960; Springfield, OH, 1934-1937; NYC, 1941-1943, 1987-1989; Denver, CO, 1949-1951; Detroit, MI, 1951-1957; Hampton Bays, NY, 1960-1962; Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY, Head Nurse, 1962-1967; Metropolitan Hospital, NYC, 1967-1973; Ossining, NY, 1973-1974; and Veterans Hospital, Montrose, NY, 1974-1975. Sister also served: in Pastoral Care, NYU Medical Center, NYC, 1975-1985; in Youth Development and Counseling, NYC, 1985-1987; and volunteered in pastoral Care, Bellevue Hospital, NYC, 1990-1994. Sister moved to Siena Hall, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY in 1994. She died October 13, 2004.
