This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Geraldine was born Geraldine Schultz on August 31, 1929 in Chicago, IL. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 7, 1947 and received the habit on June 23, 1948 when she received the religious name, Sister Robert Joseph. (She began using the name, Sister Geraldine after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1949 and final vows on August 22, 1952. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1949-1953; Little Flower, Pensacola, FL, 1953-1955; St. Boniface, Paterson, NJ, 1955-1957; St. Lawrence, Lindenwold, NJ, 1957-1960, principal 1977-1980; St. Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ, 1960-1962; St. Ursula, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1962-1967; principal at Cathedral, Raleigh, NC, 1967-1973; and taught at St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1973-1977, 1980-1986. Sister was also principal at St. Anthony School in Port Reading, NJ, 1986-1991, and taught at St. Elizabeth School in Linden, NJ, 1991-1999. She continued at St. Elizabeth School directing the “after school care” program, 1999-2002. In 2002, Sister retired at the Ann Ferguson Towers in Linden, NJ, a senior citizen apartment building, and did volunteer work. She then moved to St. Mary's Assisted Living in Lawrenceville, NJ. Sister Geraldine earned her BS in Elementary Education from Villanova University.
