This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Benedict was born Eleanor Santana on March 2, 1922 in Springfield, MA. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1954 and received the habit on June 13, 1955 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Benedict. She pronounced first vows on June 18, 1956 and final vows on August 11, 1959. During her years in the congregation she served in the following convents in domestic services: St. Joseph Day Nursery, NYC, 1957; Holy Rosary, NYC, 1957-1958; Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1958-1961, 1977; St. Mary, Passaic, NJ, 1961-1968; and St. Cecelia, Iselin, NJ, 1968-1977. She died July 26, 2010.
