Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Maryann was born Maryann Ronneburger on September 20, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1960 and received the habit on June 7 1961 when she received the religious name, Sister Thomas Gerald. (She began using the name, Sister Maryann after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 20, 1962 and final vows on March 24, 1968. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Christopher School, Parsippany, NJ, 1962-1971; Saint Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1971-1977; and Saint Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1977-1981. She was principal of Saint Joseph School in Carteret, NJ, 1981-1996. Sister taught at Holy Family Academy in Bound Brook, NJ, and became administrator, 1996-2002, and at St. Paul , Jersey City, NJ, 2002-2003. She was pastoral associate at Sacred Heart Parish in Jersey City, NJ, 2003-2005, and taught in Sacred Heart School, 2005-2006. Sister was pastoral assistant at St. Paul Parish in Jersey City, 2006-2009, when she was elected to the leadership team of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, 2009-2014. Sister Maryann earned her BS in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh NY and her MS in Education, Administration and Supervision from Fordham University.
