From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Marie Consuela was born Kathryn Roberts on March 29, 1911 in Camden, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation October 7, 1928 and received the habit on June 18, 1929 when she received the religious name, Sister Marie Consuela. She pronounced first vows on June 19, 1930 and final vows on August 20, 1936. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Boniface, NYC, 1931; St. Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, NY, 1931-1932; St. Paul, Jersey City, 1932; Holy Rosary, NYC, 1932-1935; St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1935-1936; St. Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ, 1936-1937; St. Rose, Haddon Heights, NJ, 1937-1944; St. Joan of Arc, Fairview, NJ, 1944-1948, 1969-1971; Holy Trinity, Passaic, NJ, 1949-1953; St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1953-1961; St. Mary, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1961-1967; St. Rose, Haddon Heights, NJ, 1967-1969; St. Lawrence, Laurel Springs, NJ, 1971-1977, 1977-1981. Sister retired and moved to Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY. While living at Mt. St. Mary, sister served part time doing clerical work in Central Administration, 1983, and then in telephone duty, 1983-1985. Sister Marie Consuela earned her BS in Elementary Education from Villanova University, Villanova, PA. She died July 19, 2001.
