Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Linda was born Linda Rivers on June 27, 1942 in Plattsburgh, NY. She entered the Fall River Congregation September 12, 1960 and received the habit on August 21, 1961 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Adrian. (She began using the name, Sister Linda after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 22, 1963 and final vows on August 22, 1966. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: at Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA, 1962-1967; Saint Peter, Plattsburgh, NY, 1967-1972; St. Bernadette, New Haven, CT, 1972-1985; and St. Francis Xavier, Acushnet, MA, 1985-1997. Sister served on the Fall River Congregation Council, 1985-1992. Sister Linda also served in music ministry at what is now the University of Massachusetts, North Dartmouth, MA, 1986-1997. Following a sabbatical, she was minister of hospitality at Siena Spirituality Center in Water Mill, NY, 1998-2004. She has been secretary/registrar, as well as, music minister at Mariandale Retreat and Conference Center in Ossining, NY, 2004-. Sister Linda earned her BA in Elementary Education from Providence College, Providence, RI, and her MS in Reading from Southern Connecticut State College.
