This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Jeanette was born Jeanette Redmond on April 15, 1942 in Norristown, PA. She entered the Newburgh Congregation August 30, 1963 and received the habit on June 22, 1964 when she received the religious name, Sister John Dorothy. (She began using the name, Sister Jeanette after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 23, 1965 and final vows on September 12, 1970. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Joseph Elementary, Toms River, NJ, 1967-1971; Pius XII Regional High School, Passaic, NJ, 1971-1979. She was executive secretary for the Dominican Sisters, Newburgh, NY, 1979-1993. Sister was on sabbatical in Siena Spiritual Life Center, Water Mill, NY, 1993-1994. She served as secretarial assistant for the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Ossining, NY, 1996-1997. Sister worked for United Way Family Services and Social Services of New York State in Poughkeepsie NY, 1998-2001. Sister Jeanette was an administrative assistant in the development office of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, Newburgh, NY, 2002-2009. She has been executive secretary in the administration offices of the Dominican Sisters of Hope in Ossining, NY, 2009-. Jeanette earned her BS in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College and her MA in Business Education from Montclair State.
