This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Irene was born Irene Putney on January 21, 1909 in Sandown, NH. She entered the Fall River Congregation September 7, 1928 and received the habit on September 8, 1929 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Charles. (She began using the name, Sister Julie after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on December 8, 1930 and final vows on December 8, 1934. During her years in the congregation she served in the following convents providing domestic services: St. Catherine, Fall River, MA, 1928-1935, 1937-1943, 1947-1956, 1960-1962-1965-1969, 1974-1998; St. Rose, Acushnet, MA, 1935-1936, 1943, 1963-1965; and St. Dominic, Plattsburgh, NY, 1936-1937, 1944-1947, 1956-1960. She died September 21, 2000.
