This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Lucy was born Lucy Povilonis on February 23, 1948 in Wurburgh, Germany. She entered the Newburgh Congregation August 30, 1965 and received the habit on June 14, 1966 when she received the religious name, Sister Peter Damien. (She began using the name, Sister Julie after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 17, 1967 and final vows on September 23, 1972. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Christ the King School, Yonkers NY,1969-1974 ; Saints John and Paul School, Larchmont, NY, 1974-1976. She served on the staff of the House of Prayer in Newburgh NY, 1976-1990. Sister then taught at Saint Joseph School in New Windsor, NY, 1990-1999 and then as principal of the school. She serves as a substitute teacher at Bishop Dunn Memorial School, Newburgh, NY and also provides in-service for the faculty. Sister Lucy earned her BA in Social Studies from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, and her MA in Theological Studies from the University of Dayton.
