This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Eleanor was born Eleanor Piat on November 8, 1921 in New York, New York. She entered the Ossining Congregation March 24, 1947 and received the habit on September 9, 1947 when she received the religious name, Sister Christopher. (She began using the name, Sister Eleanor after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on September 10, 1948 and final vows on September 10, 1951. During her years in the congregation she served in the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor Family Health Agencies: Columbus OH, 1949-1950 and 1952-1956; Boston, MA, 1956-1957; in Detroit MI, 1958-1960; and New York City, 1962-1992. Sister then became a teacher assistant at Lehman College Adult Learning Center in the Bronx NY, 1992-1997. In 1997, Sister Eleanor moved to the Dominican Sisters of Hope Center in Newburgh NY and volunteered in the Literacy Program of the City of Newburgh. Sister Eleanor earned her RN in Nursing from Misericordia Hospital and her BS in Science from New York University. Sister Eleanor moved to The Wartburg Assisted Care Facility.
