Scope and Contents
This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Rita was born Rita Pelletier on October 23, 1936. She entered the Fall River Congregation September 1, 1954 and received the habit on August 28, 1954 when she was given the religious name, Sister Raymond Marie. (She began using the name, Sister Rita after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on august 22, 1956 and final vows on August 22, 1959. During her years in the congregation she served in the following places: Saint John’s Nursery in Fall River, MA, cooking and caring for the children. She was engaged in service to the community at St. Augustine’s Convent in Peru, N, 1962-64; at St. Rose Convent in Acushnet, MA, 1971-93; and at the Fall River Center of Hope, 1993-2002. Over the years, she enjoyed a variety of activities: singing with the Stetsonaires; participating in the Cursillo movement; and renewal programs for women religious; knitting for the poor; walking; and reading. She moved to the Landmark at Fall River in 2002, and was active in the senior citizens group of St. Anne’s Parish. St. Rita then moved to Catholic Memorial Home in Fall River, MA.
