Scope and Contents
This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Catherine was born Catalina Ortiz on February 21, 1938. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1955 and received the habit on June 12, 1956 when she received the religious name, Sister Catherine di Ricci. She pronounced first vows on June 13, 1957 and final vows on August 20, 1960. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Joseph Day Nursery in Manhattan from 1957-61. In 1961 she returned to her birthplace, Puerto Rico, where she was assigned to Academia San Jose Elementary School as a teacher until 1972. She remained there as Religious Education Coordinator until 1978 and, since then, has served as principal, 1978-. Sister Catherine earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College and her MA in Administration from New York University.
