From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Charles Elizabeth was born Constance O'Brien on May 10, 1923. She entered the Ossining Congregation on September 8, 1947 and received the habit on March 8, 1948 when she was given the religious name, Sister Charles Elizabeth. She pronounced first vows on June 24, 1949 and final vows on June 24, 1952. During her years in the congregation she served with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor Home Health Agencies in : Springfield OH, 1949-52; New York City, 1952-54 and 1964-74; Dayton OH, 1954-56; and Cincinnati OH, 1956-64. She worked in the infirmary of the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Ossining NY, 1974-78. She provided home care for a family member on Long Island, 1978-80. Sister moved to Denver CO, where she did home care with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor, 1980-85. Sister Charles Elizabeth worked in the Mt St. Mary Convent Infirmary in Newburgh NY, 1985-86 and volunteered in the Maryknoll Sisters Nursing Home, Maryknoll NY, 1990-95. She also volunteered to help with mailings for the Dominican Sisters of Hope and the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service. She died December 29, 2014.
