Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Mary Regis was born Loretta Nuva on September 19, 1928. She entered the Ossining Congregation on September 7, 1951 and received the habit on June 25, 1952. when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Regis. She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1953 and final vows on June 25, 1957. During her years in the congregation she served as a Registered Nurse with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor Home Health Agencies in: Denver, CO; Ossining, NY; and Bronx, NY. Sister Mary Regis received an RN from Misericordia School of Nursing and BS from CO. She died on September 22, 2014 and is buried in the cemetery at Mariandale, Ossining, NY.
