Scope and Contents
This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Germaine was born Winifred Nicholson on June 22, 1925. She entered the Newburgh Congregation September 8, 1945 and received the habit on June 24, 1946 when she was given the religious name, Sister Germaine. She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1947 and final vows on August 26, 1950. During her years in the congregation she served in the following places: Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY; Holy Rosary, NYC; Gloucester, NJ; Laurel Springs, NJ; St. Paul's, Jersey City, NJ; Our Lady of Lourdes, Paterson, NJ; Holy Trinity, Passaic, NJ; Sacred heart, Raleigh, NC; St. Joseph's Day Nursery, NYC; and Dominican House of Studies, Washington, DC. She died on May 22, 2004.
