This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Marie Francis was born Margaret Muirhead on April 25, 1909 in Jersey City, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1929 and received the habit on June 20, 1930 when she was given the religious name, Sister Marie Francis. She pronounced first vows on June 23, 1931 and final vows on August 20, 1937 During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Larchmont, NY, 1934; St. Mary, Paterson, NJ, 1934-1940; Larchmont Parochial, Larchmont, NY, 1940-1947, 1948-1954; Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1947-1948; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1954-1960; St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, 1966-1971; St. Mary, Allenhurst, NJ, 1971-1972; and St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1972-. Sister also ministered in the Newburgh Congregation as Novice Mistress. 1960-1966. Sister Marie Francis earned her BS in Secondary Education from Fordham University, and her MS in Education from Villanova University. She died November 6, 1995.
