This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Ella was born Mary Ella Morrison on July 11, 1944 in Haddon Heights, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 4, 1962 and received the habit on June 9, 1963 when she was given the religious name, Sister Margaret Therese. (She began using the name, Sister Mary Ella after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on June 22, 1964 and final vows on June 28, 1969. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Sacred Heart, Newburgh, NY, 1966-1969; St. Christopher, Parsippany, NJ, 1969-1972; Mt. St. Mary Academy, Newburgh, NY, 1972-1976; Saint Ursula, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1977; Immaculate High School, Danbury, CT, 1977-1978; and religion at Our Lady of Lourdes HS, Poughkeepsie, NY, 1978-1985. She was a pastoral associate at Saint Brendan Parish, Elkins, WV, 1985-2002. Sister has been involved in hospice care in Elkins, 2003-. Sister Mary Ella earned her BA in Elementary Education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh, and her MA in Religious Studies from Providence College. She also holds a Certificate in Preaching from the Aquinas Summer Institute in Preaching in St. Louis. She died September 1, 2020.
