This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister John Francis was born Helen Morley on November 20, 1924 in Bayonne, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on December 8, 1945 and received the habit on June 24, 1946 when she was given the religious name, Sister John Francis. She pronounced first vows on June 25, 1947 and final vows on August 26, 1950. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1947-1952; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1952-1957; Our Lady of Victory, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1957-1958' Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1958-1965; Gloucester Catholic HS, Gloucester, NJ, 1965-1969; Pope Pius XII HS, Passaic, NJ, 1969-1970; and St. Patrick, Newburgh, NY, Principal, 1970-1979. Sister also served as Religious Education Coordinator, St. Patrick Parish, Newburgh, NY, 1979-1995. She died June 25, 1997.
