Scope and Contents

From the Record Group: This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH.  It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical

Sister Angele was born Rosilda Morin on March 12, 1914 in New Bedford, MA. She entered the Fall River Congregation August 3, 1932 and received the habit on July 1, 1933 when she received the religious name, Sister Angele. She pronounced first vows on July 2, 1934 and final vows on July 2, 1937. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Anne, Fall River, MA, 1934-1937, 1939-1941, 1964-1970; St. Peter, Plattsburgh, NY, 1937-1938; St. Francis Xavier, Acushnet, MA, 1938-1939, 1941-1946; St. Ann, Mooers Forks, NY, where she taught religious education classes, conducted summer school classes in seven parishes, and was sacristan in the church, 1951-1963; St. Francis Xavier, 1963-1964; and Dominican Academy, Fall River, 1977. Sister also served the Fall River Congregation as: Mistress of Novices, 1946-1951; and as prioress of St. Catherine’s Convent, Fall River, MA. She was appointed infirmarian and served in that role for several years as well as in pastoral care with the elderly and infirm sisters, 1977-. In May 2002 she was welcomed to Siena Hall at the Dominican Sisters of Hope Center in Newburgh, NY. Sister Angele earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Providence College. She died July 19, 2009.
