This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Barbara was born Josephine Moore on December 16, 1914 in NYC. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1935 and received the habit on June 12, 1936 when she was given the religious name, Sister Barbara. She pronounced first vows on June 27, 1937 and final vows on August 4, 1943. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Casa San Jose, Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1939-1941; Dominican Day School, Larchmont, NY, 1941-1943; St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1943-1946; St. Patrick, Woodbury, NJ, 1946-1952; Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, Principal, 1952-1953; St. Lawrence, Laurel Springs, NJ, Principal, 1953-1958; Gloucester Catholic HS, Gloucester, NJ, 1960-1961; Pope Pius XII HS, Passaic, NJ, 1961-1968; Cardinal Gibbons HS, Raleigh, NC, 1968-1969; and St. Joseph HS, Toms River, NJ, 1969-. Sister Barbara earned her BS in Education and MS in Biology from Villanova University. She died October 9, 2008.
