This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Eileen Marie was born Nellie McCarthy on February 18, 1906 in NYC. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on February 2, 1930 and received the habit on August 30, 1930 when she was given the religious name, Sister Eileen Marie. She pronounced first vows on August 31, 1931 and final vows on August 20, 1937. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1932-; St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1942-, 1954-; St. Joseph, Toms River, NJ, 1949, Holy Rosary, NYC, 1950-1953;, Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1953; Our Lady of Lourdes, Paterson, NJ, 1953; Our Lady of Victory, Mt. Vernon, NY, 1954, Nativity, Bronx, NY, 1961-1965; St. Thomas, Cornwall, NY, 1965-1970; and part of staff at Infirmary at Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY, 1970-1984. Sister retired in 1984. She died November 1, 2004.
