This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister John Christian was born Constance McCabe on August 22, 1935 in Elmira, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on August 30, 1961 and received the habit on June 19, 1962 when she was given the religious name, Sister John Christian. She pronounced first vows on June 20, 1963 and final vows on October 22, 1968. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Mount Saint Mary Academy, Newburgh, NY, 1961-1962; and Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, where she served at Academia San Jose High School as teacher of Latin and Religion, 1963-1978, as assistant principal and teacher, 1978-1987, and as principal,1987-. Sister John Christian earned: her BA in Classics from Elmira College; her MA in Education from Syracuse University; her MA in Religious Studies from Providence College; and her MA in Education Supervision and Administration from New York University.
