This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Alice was born Genevieve McAteer on October 9, 1915 in Gloucester, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1934 and received the habit on June 26, 1935 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Alice. She pronounced first vows on June 26, 1936and final vows on August 20, 1942. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Anthony, Hawthorne, NJ, 1936-1942; St. Lawrence, Lauren Springs, NJ, 1942-1952; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1952-1955; Bishop Dunn Memorial, Newburgh, NY, 1955-1964; St. Joan of Arc, Fairview, NJ, 1964-1965; St. Ursula, Mt. Vernon, 1965-1968; and St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1968-1983, and then part time, 1983-1984. Sister retired but ministered to the homebound parishioners in St. Mary, Gloucester, 1984-1985, and then in parish ministry, part time, 1985. Sister Mary Alice earned her BS in Education from Villanova University, Villanova, PA. She died August 4, 2002.
