This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Imelda was born Imelda Martineau on December 28, 1905 in Ste. Sophie, Canada. She entered the Fall River Congregation on December 27, 1924 and received the habit on December 7, 1925 when she received the religious name, Sister Imelda Gonzalve. (She began using the name, Sister Imelda after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on December 8, 1926 and final vows on December 8, 1930. Sister Imelda was a Lay Sister until 1946, when it was proposed at the Chapter that this categorical distinction should be dropped. During her years in the congregation she served in the following convents: St. Francis Xavier, Acushnet, MA, 1924-1930, 1932-1933, 1948-1950, 1958-1959; St. Peter, Plattsburgh, NY, 1947-1948; St. Catherine, Fall River, MA, 1930-1932, 1933-1947, 1950-1958, 1962-1978; and St. John Day Nursery, Fall River, MA, 1959-1962. Sister moved to St. Catherine Infirmary, Fall River, MA in 1985 and then to Catholic Memorial Home, Fall River in 1993. She died February 7, 1996.
