This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Marie Denise was born Julia Manning on July 14, 1915 in Camden, NJ. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1937 and received the habit on June 17, 1938 when she was given the religious name, Sister Mary Denise. She pronounced first vows on June 8, 1939 and final vows on August 21, 1945. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Sts. Peter and Paul, Trenton, NJ, 1939-1943; Immaculata, Durham, NC, 1943-1944; Holy Trinity, Passaic, NJ, 1944-1947; Annunciation, Crestwood, NY, 1947-1959; St. Augustine, Larchmont, NY, 1959-1968; and Assumption, Fairfield, CT, where she taught and was Vice Principal, 1968-1985. Sister Mary Denise earned her BS in Elementary Education and her MA in Guidance from Villanova University, Villanova, PA. She died January 28, 2002.
