This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Grace Electa was born Elizabeth Loring on September 3, 1891 in Mt. Vernon, NY. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1908 and received the habit on June 10, 1909 when she was given the religious name, Sister Grace Electa. She pronounced first vows on June 30, 1910 and final vows on August 19, 1921. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: St. Mary, Gloucester, NJ, 1909-1911, 1926-1933, 1952-1955; St. Augustine, Larchmont, NY, 1911-1917, 1946-1948; St, Mary, Passaic, NJ, 1917-1918, 1970-1975; Our Lady of Lourdes, Paterson, NJ, 1918-1921; Perth Amboy, 1921-1922; St. Thomas, Pleasantville, NY, 1922-1926; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1933-1934; St. Mary High School, Paterson, NJ, 1934-1936; St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1936-1938; Sacred Heart, Raleigh, NC, 1938-1946; Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic, NJ, 1948-1952, 1961-1970; and Sacred Heart, Camden, NJ, 1955-1961. Sister Grace Electa earned both a BA and MA from Fordham University, NY. Sister moved to the infirmary at Mt. St. Mary, Newburgh, NY in 1975. She died February 20, 1996.
