This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Louise was born Louise Levesque on November 19, 1942 in Fall River, MA. She entered the Fall River Congregation on September 12, 1961 and received the habit on August 21, 1962 when she received the religious name, Sister Marie Louise. (She began using the name, Sister Louise after Vatican II). She pronounced first vows on August 22, 1964 and final vows on August 22, 1967. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Saint Augustine, Peru, NY, 1966-1967; Saint Bernadette, New Haven, CT, 1967-1971; Dominican Academy in Fall River, MA, 1971-1973, as principal; and at St. Bernadette, New Haven, CT, 1973-1980. Sister was teacher and guidance counselor at Preston High School, Bronx, NY, 1980-1984. She was assistant director in the Office of Catechetical Ministry for the Diocese of Norwich, CT, 1984-1988, and education consultant in the Diocesan School Office in Providence, RI, 1988-2003. In addition to her education ministry, Sister Louise served on the General Council of the Dominican Sisters of Fall River, MA, 1986-1995, and on the Leadership team of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, 2003-2009. Sister also taught English as a Second Language, (ESL). Sister Louise earned: her BA in Elementary Education and English from the College of the Sacred Hearts in Fall River, MA; her MA in Religious Studies from Providence College; and her MS in Counseling from Iona College in New Rochelle NY.
