This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Gertrude was born Gertrude Lauzon on April 4, 1920 in Lynn, MA. She entered the Fall River Congregation on August 27, 1939 and received the habit on March 6, 1940 when she received the religious name, Sister Gertrude. She pronounced first vows on March 7, 1941 and final vows on March 7, 1944. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Dominican Academy, Fall River, MA, 1941-19-44; St. Anne, Fall River, MA, 1944-1949, 1961-1962, 1970-1982; St. Peter Parish religious education classes; St. Ann, Mooers Forks, NY, 1960-1965; St. Joseph, West Chazy, NY, 1965-1969, principal; and Holy Rosary, Ellenburg, NY, 1969-1970. Sister was treasurer for the Dominican Sisters of Fall River, MA, 1983-1994. In 1995, she retired to the Newburgh Center of Hope, Newburgh, NY. Sister Gertrude earned her BA in History/Philosophy, and Theology from Regis College, Massachusetts. She died May 30, 2013.
