This collection contains records from all the sisters who make up the DSOH. It includes their personal papers, publications, artistic work, photographs, diplomas, ministry history etc. The Dominican Sisters of Hope were founded in 1995. The group includes members of the former Newburgh Domincan, Fall River Dominican and Ossining Dominican Communities. The sisters work and minister in various ways including community organizing, social work, education, environmental advocacy, and retreat ministry.

Biographical / Historical
Sister Mary Cornelia was born Florence Lastocy on August 8, 1911 in New York City. She entered the Newburgh Congregation on September 8, 1928 and received the habit on June 18, 1929 when she received the religious name, Sister Mary Cornelia. She pronounced first vows on June 19, 1930 and final vows on August 20, 1936. During her years in the congregation she served in the following schools: Sts. Peter and Paul, Trenton, NJ, 1930-1936; Holy Trinity, Passaic, NJ, 1936-1942; St. Mary, Passaic, NJ, 1947-1948; St. Paul, Jersey City, NJ, 1948-1949; St. Patrick, Woodbury, NJ, 1949-1950; Cathedral Elementary, Raleigh, NC, 1950-1952; Guardian Angel, New York City, 1952-1953; Holy Family, New Rochelle, NY, 1953-1961; Our Lady of Lourdes, Paterson, NJ, 1961-1962; St. Patrick, Newburgh, NY, 1962-1966; and St. Cecilia, Iselin, NJ, 1966-1985. She also served as receptionist at Mount Saint Mary Convent, Newburgh, NY. Sister Mary Cornelia earned her BS in Social Studies from Fordham University. She died January 15, 2011.
